Key Principles

  • Never restart a vaccine series because of a delay. Continue from the last valid dose.
  • Multiple vaccines can generally be given during the same visit at different anatomical sites.
  • Check the vaccination card / home-based record before deciding what is missing.
  • If records are unavailable, treat the child as potentially under-immunized and make a catch-up plan.
  • Rotavirus has strict age limits (not after 24 months).
  • For children β‰₯7 years, use Td/Tdap instead of DTP (as per national schedule and product availability).
πŸ‘Ά

Catch-up Age Groups

πŸ‘Ά < 1 year Follow routine schedule and give missed doses.
πŸ‘¦ 1–2 years Give missed doses as per catch-up intervals.
πŸ‘§ 2–5 years Complete missed doses (avoid rotavirus after 24 months).
πŸ§’ 5–7 years Give missed doses, use DTP/DTaP or Td/Tdap as per national policy.
πŸ‘¦ 7–18 years Td/Tdap and other age-appropriate vaccines as per schedule.
πŸ’‘

Remember

  • Vaccination protects against serious and sometimes life-threatening diseases.
  • Even if the child is older, vaccines are still beneficial and safe.
  • Keep the child's vaccination record updated.
  • Consult EPI / Health Department guidelines for the latest updates.
